About Us

We Are Duende District

We are a bookstore by and for people of color -- where all are welcome.

Founded in February 2017, Duende District's mission is to bring a highly inclusive and pleasurable general bookstore experience in Washington, D.C. and surrounding areas, serving a multicultural community with an equally multicultural ownership/staff.

Currently a mobile pop-up bookstore, our focus is on the large Hispanic, black, immigrant and other communities of color throughout D.C.-Maryland-Virginia, while also welcoming all people to participate in the conversation/experience.

Let's Build Community

Duende District's pop-ups are not only a way to reach communities that do not have traditional access to bookstores but they are also the best way for us to discover the community to make our first permanent bricks-and-mortar home.

We invite anyone who would like to see Duende District in their community to contact us -- and if you believe in what we're doing, we're looking for investors like you!
